Book Club: The Eyre Affair

Our Book Club chose The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde to be our July book. This novel revolves around a Special Operations Agent [for books] named Thursday Next and her adventures through cities, time/space and books to catch the villan in this book, Acheron Hades. Yes, I said books--as in leaping through the pages of classic novels and poems.

I am not a fan of science fiction or fantasy novels. Twilight was an exception because who is to say that vampires are not real? Certanily not me! I am not a Harry Potter fan either [put your guns down!].

[Okay, I did love the Time Traveler's Wife, too…so maybe I am just selective,.]

Either which way you look at it…I was not a fan of this book. It was brought up as a choice for a couple of months, so we decided to just go with it…errr…they did. I wanted no part of this book before, during or even now--but it wasn't a terrible book. At all.

In fact, if I was a fan of this genre, I would have loved this book and devoured the entire series.

I think that if you enjoy reading…and you enjoy this genre, then pick up the series. You will like it. It had some entertaining parts, such as the villan being named after a mythological hell…and Tuesday's boss being named Braxton Hicks.

There was just too much "unreal" for me to enjoy it.

Book 3/30

So... This is like a sequel to Jane Eyre? The one where she used the time machine to keep Thornfield from burning down? Cool.

That's actually funny that you remember the ending of Jane Eyre...I haven't read it since middle school and couldn't recall the ending...!

According to this book, Ms. Bronte originally wrote it where Jane ran away to India, Thornfield didn't burn down, etc...but when the Literary police enter the pages hunting a criminal, everything goes awry, thornfield burns down, Rochester goes blind...and it brings us to the ending as we know it.

If you like science fiction/fantasy and need a good read on the plane to Italy...you might want to pick this book up!

I really can't read adult fantasy or science fiction because I break out in hives.

I did read (and also own) the Twilight series, and I want to burn every single one of those goddamn books. Hated the series. HATED it. Last book was a HUGE disappointment. The only thing that pissed me off even more were that some of the fifth graders at the school also read the book and were all like, "Edward and Bella had sex! Remember the part when he broke the bed? That was so funny!"

Uh, not so much children. You're so not even supposed to be having sex or reading it about it.

Harry Potter? True fan, baby. True fan. I'm also a HUGE fan of another children's fantasy series by Rick Riordan. The only reason why I haven't read the last installment in the series is because it's still in hardcover (boo).

Oooh! I might have to check that out! Totally sounds like something I'd enjoy.

BTW, is the film version of The Time Travellers Wife out over there yet? I'm dying to see it, I truly loved the book.

The Time Traveler's Wife comes out here on August 14th. I am SO excited. I love it when my books come to movies.

I love it more when I'm a HUGE fan of the book!

Constructive Attitude: I made this bucket list for my 29th birthday...they are 30 things to do before 30. One of the items is to read 30 books.

This was the 3rd of 30 books.

I took it off...

but I wrote a post in the spring about a work colleague who talked up a book for all of the teachers to read. So, I bought the freaking book. It was horrible!!! The bitch never read it. She lied!!! Why did she lie about having read a book?? I want her to reimburse my $$$ for the book.
