Book Club: Angels and Demons

Book Club read Dan Brown's Angels and Demons for the month of April. I must admit, I am not a fan of this genre of book [historical fiction] and did not particularly like The DaVinci Code. I am also not a fan of movies such as National Treasure, Indiana Jones or, well, The DaVinci Code--so this book was pretty much doomed [for me] from the beginning. In fact, I was not looking forward to reading this book so much that I actually cheated and listened to it on tape to and from work every day…but the version was unabridged, so it took awhile to finish it!

Although I was shocked at the end, the book was pretty much a puzzle throughout. Langdon is a super genius with amazing timing--as he happened to be present when most of the major events occurred. In addition, he was nearly killed more than once…in reality…he would have been dead first try…he isn't a super hero for crying out loud.

I don't want to divulge too many details here…mostly because the movie is coming out in a few weeks and if you haven't read the book, I don't want to spoil it for you.

I will say, however, that the camerlengo is played by Ewan McGregor in the movie…and I can hardly wait! Plus, it is always fun to see a book that you have read acted out on the big screen…at least for me it is. Whether I liked the book or not!!!

In honor of our Angels and Demons theme, Jennifer made divine treats for today's meeting: Angel Food Cake and Deviled Eggs. YUM!!!!

Aww! Can I join your book club? I've wanted to join one for years but haven't been able to find any decent ones locally. I'm even considering trying to start one myself.

I read Angels & Demons a couple of years ago and totally loved it, even more than The Da Vinci Code tbh, but then I'm a huge fan of the whole genre.

I can't wait to see the film!

Ps: The tasty grub looks awesome!! Another reason for wanting to join your club :P

G.I. That is what I did -- I started the book club at work with three other girls, all of whom bailed after the first meeting (and after we read lame-O Devil Wears Prada, a choice by one of them and then she didn't show to the meeting...but i'm not bitter).

This is the one lunch I REALLY look forward to every month!!!

Fly in the last Friday of every month and come to my work. We'll save you a seat!

w00t! :P Will do, Lopez! I'll bring the cosmopolitans!

I haven't read the Devil Wears Prada book (seen the film and absolutely loved it) ... and don't think I'll bother now. So thanks for the tip!

G.I. The Devil Wears Prada book was good...better than the movie, but better to read it first...the movie is very similar.

The reason i said it was Lame-O was because it was not book club material AND it was years after the movie had come out. Years.

Maybe I should have just called her Lame-O...maybe I was too caught up in not being bitter! Ha!

Well don't be bitter... Now I have the song 'Bitter End' stuck from the Project Revolution tour (Placebo)...

I just knew you would get the FG reference!

Remember I read this book and it took me f-o-r-e-v-e-r to finish...I think a few people built my expeditions up way too high and I was a bit disappointed.
